About

What is AnyHire.com?

AnyHire is a global online service similar in many ways to eBay, but for hiring stuff.

We integrate the following services into one super-useful interface:

  • Global, location-aware hire & rental search engine providing ability to locate ITEMS for hire near to you FAST!
    • The hire items come from both professional hire businesses as well as private owners. And all are still just one search away.
    • We also maintain a searchable hire & rental business directory. (Don't wait and register your business now. It is free.)
  • Hire & rental marketplace and hub.
    • Matching customers with item owners.
    • Providing complete inventory and booking management software to all.
    • Managing complete transaction lifecyle.
    • Providing private online shops to hire businesses acting as additional funnel to produce additional customers.
    • Anyone can list their items in the global item directory and it is completely FREE!
    • You can even find services on AnyHire.com. People like Magicians or Dancers to complete your night of entertainment. Anybody or anything that can be legally hired for a fixed per period fee can be offered on and hired through AnyHire.com.
    • Anyone can sell their items, too, provided that they are also available to be rented instead.

Combining a professional rental hub with peer-to-peer hire service grows the overall hire market with benefits to everyone:

  • Everyone has access to much larger variety of item regardless of the region.
  • Businesses get more customers because finding items and hiring them just got a whole lot easier. When something is easy more of us do it. So there will be more customers around.
  • Private individuals can create supplemental incomes for themselves by letting their rarely use stuff work for them.
  • New businesses can spring from successful private operations in, until then, non-serviced areas.
  • Increased ability to share things means that we don't have to buy so much stuff. So we save our wallets and our environment and our living space will not be cluttered with all the stuff we only needed once or use very rarely.
  • We can now hire items that are not available for hire from the professionals and we can also hire in regions where professional hire is non-existent.
  • We can now help others more when natural disasters strike. Businesses can discount items for the victims and individuals can offer to lend items that are too expensive to be given.

So that's what AnyHire.com is. We are NOT A HIRE BUSINESS. We just BRING ALL HIRE BUSINESSES AND INDIVIDUALS TOGETHER so that next time it is actually easy to find and hire what you need. Register and list your own items today!

General

How does the hiring process work for the customer?

The process is simple.

  1. Locate the item you would like to hire by searching or browsing.
  2. Click the green BOOK NOW button.
  3. Await confirmation by email from the item’s owner.
  4. Accept confirmation and remit payment.
  5. Pick up or receive delivery of the item on the start date of hire and return it at the agreed upon date and time.
  6. Rate your experience on the site.

Want more detail?

  1. You can browse or search for items on the Find items for hire page. Don't forget to set the location where you want to hire the item(s) at the top of the left sidebar on the page. For more information see the in-page help (click the 'Show help' link close to top right on that page).
  2. You can add the chosen item to a quote request right from the search result list by clicking the green 'Add to Quote' button next to it. To see the details of the item first, click the blue 'Detail' button and then click the 'Add to Quote' button on the details page.
  3. Although the AnyHire system tracks the availability of items and will not let you to overbook items, it is possible that the item you've just booked was just reserverd for someone by other means (over the phone, over the counter etc.) or it broke down. For these reasons most bookings have to be confirmed by their owners. The owner is notified about your booking immediately and is issued a time to respond. When they do, you will receive an email notification and the item will be clearly marked on the Manage my bookings page as 'waiting for final acceptance and payment' by you.
  4. The owner of the booked item may have only confirmed partial quantity, or they may have changed the delivery price. In this step you decide to accept the confirmed booking after which you are expected to pay for the scheduled hire immediately. However, if you are still waiting for some items to be confirmed by the same or other owners, you can wait* and pay for all items at once with a single payment, even if they come from different owners.
  5. Payment is made as easy as possible for you. You can pay in different currencies, depending on what currencies the owners accept and you can pay for all items with a single payment, even if the items come from different owners. All payment processing goes through PayPal, but you do NOT have to be a PayPal member or have a PayPal account! All it means is that even your payments by credit card are being processed safely by an entity that is trusted worldwide and we do not store or even get any access to your credit card details.
The money you pay is held in escrow on our PayPal account until the actual hire is finished and the item returned to the owner.
On pickup (or delivery), you may be required to pay a deposit directly to the owner if it was stated in that product's pricing section.
At the end of hire, if both parties are happy with the transaction, the customer receives their deposit back from the owner and the owner receives the payment from AnyHire.com. In case of any disputes, all or part of the money remains in escrow until the dispute is resolved. Then, part or in extreme cases** the whole amount may be returned to the customer.
  6. On pickup (or the item's delivery), you will be required to check the item and sign the hire agreement, noting any obvious demage to the item. Please note that the standard AnyHire.com Hire Agreement applies unless a custom hire agreement was linked to the item on AnyHire.com, in which case you should print it out, read and have with you when you picking the item up. If a deposit is required (which has to be also mentioned on the product detail page), you must pay to the owner the required amount. You have to expect that private as well as some commercial hirers will not have credit card facilities and the deposit will have to be paid in cash. Alternatively, we will be providing a facility to pay your deposits through AnyHire in a single payment together with your payment for the actual hire.
  7. When you return the item in the condition it was when you received it, you will receive your deposit back in full and will sign that you did so on the owner's copy of the hire/rental agreement or you will have to return to them the receipt they issued to you in exchange for the deposit. If you damaged the item while using it, the owner may keep the equivalent portion of your deposit to cover the repairs directly relavant to the damage you caused. In some cases the demage may actually be higher than the deposit in which case you are liable to pay any additional expenses unless the item was covered by insurance. If the parties do not agree on the level of compensation, they are bound by the rules set in AnyHire.com's Terms of Service. Until any disputes are resolved, the owner has the right to hold on to the equivalent sum from the deposit and return the rest to the customer and will not receive the customer's hire payment until the case is closed. If the deposit has been processed through AnyHire.com, only such portion that the owner has agreed to will be returned to the customer. The rest will be kept in escrow until the dispute is resolved.
  8. The rating system helps keep people honest and you should truthfully rate the item owner and write a note for them. Remember, the owner will in return rate you so be honest, but please be polite and reasonable as well.

* Note however, that all item bookings must be paid by the date set by the system. If not paid by that date, the item can be hired to somebody else, which means that you could lose the chance to hire that item.

** An extreme case would be if the item could not be used for the purpose it was advertised and for which it was clearly hired and the inadequate condition could not had been easily discovered at the time of pickup or delivery.

How does the hiring process work for the owner?

  1. Register with AnyHire.com.
  2. List your items.
  3. Relax. When a customer discovers your item and books it, you will receive an email notification informing you about the booking and asking you to confirm it.
  4. Confirm the booking and relax again until the scheduled start of the hire.
  5. Either wait for the customer to pick up the item or deliver the item at the agreed time depending on your setup and what the customer requested.
  6. At the end of the hire, collect your item back from the customer and subsequently receive the customer's payment that was held in escrow by us. Businesses receive the payment right at the start of the hire period. See our Terms of Service for more information.
  7. Rate the customer.

All the steps above except the actual monetary transaction are provided to you for free by AnyHire.com. This means you incur no cost whatsoever until you actually earn money using the site. A small transaction fee is subtracted from the total payment before it is transferred to you. For more info on pricing see our 'Pricing' page.

Want more detail?

  1. Registration is a quick and simple 30-second process. Item owners should then check one or both check boxes on the congratulations page and are encouraged to continue and thoroughly fill in their profile including address and contact information. This can take a couple extra minutes but makes it easier for people to find your items for hire.
  2. Anybody can list their items - businesses and individuals alike. Just go to the 'My Inventory > Add product' page and fill in at least the mandatory fields on the first tab. (There is only a handful of them.)
  3. Manual confirmation of availability is required unless you only use AnyHire.com to hire your stuff out and have stable business hours. You may decline a booking if the booked item has just been scheduled by other means or through a different system or if you intend to use the item yourself. The owners can also add short messages for the customer which may explain the declination and/or suggest another time.
  4. When the customer receives the item, it is the responsibility of the owner to make any necessary identity checks, (i.e.copies of ID cards or drivers licences etc.). If you have your own hire agreement, you must give it to the customer and both parties must sign it. If not, the standard "AnyHire hire agreement" applies automatically. If you have your own hire agreement, it must be attached to all items on AnyHire.com to which it applies so that the customer is not surprised by it and can read it in advance. Also, if a required deposit was listed with the item on AnyHire.com, the owner can request the amount from the customer against a receipt unless the customer opted to transfer the deposit through AnyHire.
  5. When the item is returned or picked up, a signature has to be added to the relevant section at the end of the hire agreement stating that the item was returned in appropriate condition. If a deposit was paid directly to the owner, it has to be returned to the customer and the original receipt destroyed or a return receipt has to be signed by the customer. If the item being returned has been demaged while with the customer, the parties are expected to come to an agreement and the deposit or its equivalent part can be used to cover any directly related repairs.
  6. The rating system helps keep people honest and you should truthfully rate the customer and comment on them. Remember, the customer will in return rate you so be honest, but please be polite and reasonable as well.

The PEOPLE category on AnyHire.com lets you offer yourself for hire. You may be an entertainer of some kind, a tradie, or simply someone with too much time on their hands and willing to help others with whatever while earning some money.

Not sure that you have anything you could yourself hire out? Well, let us assure you that virtually everybody does! Just think about it - the bicycles you use so rarely, your third car that you bought only to have the occassional 4WD fun, tools, textbooks, trailers, theme party dresses, brand-name handbags... The list goes on and on.

Things don't have to be expensive to be in demand for hire. Often people just don't want to store them in their homes, even if they are cheap to buy. People are starting to realize that buying stuff that you only use couple of times a year is not only more expensive than renting it for those rare occasions, but it also saves them having to find a place for everything. Hiring is in many cases not only better for our pockets, but it is also always better for the environment!

Where in the world can I hire through AnyHire.com?

The answer to this question is really simple: Anywhere!

Although we are starting in Australia, the idea behind AnyHire is to make it really simple to hire anything, anywhere. Whether you want to borrow a simple drill from your neighbour or you are traveling to the other side of the world and want to hire a car, a bicycle, and diving equipment to explore the underwater wonders nearby, you should be able to save yourself the trouble of searching in general search engines by going directly to AnyHire.com and find, book and pay for what you need quickly and easily.

Why would I want to hire something as simple and cheap as, say...a drill?

The answer may not be immediately clear, but when you think about it just a little, it will start making lots of sense. A large portion of people living on this beautiful planet of ours have been living consumer lives. We buy houses, then we buy stuff to fill them and then we buy bigger houses to store all that additional stuff. All the while we actually only use most of the things rarely. Sure we need them from time to time, but the truth is that most of the time we don't.

Hiring instead of buying
  • Saves you Money
  • Reduces Clutter
  • Is Convenient
  • Lets you Try Before you Buy
  • Is Kind to the Earth

Money: A cordless drill will cost you $50 to buy a cheap one and several hundred dollars for a more powerful brand name product. If you think you’ll only use one infrequently and can hire it for $5, you’ll save 1000% on the cost and you don't need to find anywhere to store it.

Convenience: Next time you need a drill for a different project, you can hire a different one, more suited to that project. By using the geo-location features on AnyHire.com you can easily identify the closest place (or neighbour) to rent your drill. You might even be able to have it delivered.

Clutter reduction: If there isn’t a place for everything and everything isn’t in its place, hiring and renting might be the ideal solution to keeping your sanity.

Community relations: Renting from your neighbours presents you with a great chance to meet some of those you never had a chance to meet.

Civic responsibility: Manufacturing takes precious natural resources and what doesn’t get used usually ends up in landfill somewhere, usually closer to you than you think. By offering our products for hire, we make the best use of our belongings and by hiring from people and businesses that offer products for hire we reduce the toll that manufacturing takes on our environment. It is not our position to put manufacturers of drills out of business, but just imagine that half of people who own drills rarely use them. If instead of buying a drill half the people in the world borrowed or hired one from a neighbour. Just imagine how much less packaging would be used in a year, the reduction in land fill, the reduction in shipping fuel… And that’s just drills. Just one item from our list of over 800 categories on AnyHire.com.

Prefer a story? Click here.

If we come back to our drill in the question, maybe I don't want to buy a drill and have the hassle of finding space for where to keep it, just because I need to drill a couple of holes every couple of years. Why not? Because doing that I end up with full cupboard of stuff that I almost never use. Instead, I may prefer to do a quick proximity search on AnyHire.com and find out that the neighbour across the street who I never talked to before has listed his on AnyHire for 5 dollars. I'm happy to give him 5 dollars to save me having to go and by my own drill because I don't otherwise need it. In the process I've met and talked to my new neighbour. That is a good thing. You are building your community relations. Maybe you are even getting a new friend.

So far we talked about us, what's good for us personally, what makes things easier for us. Sure, there is nothing wrong with that. In the end we all are looking for ways how to make our lives simpler. But lets also have a quick look at the wider ramifications of that simple decision to hire rather than buy. Well, first of all, we've made another person happy. Our neighbour bought the drill for maybe 30, 40 dollars and in an couple of hours 5 of those dollars found a way back to them. There may be 10 other neighbours around also hiring that drill from him over the course of time. Now the drill has actually paid for itself and is even making its owner a little bit of money!

And how about the environment? In our example there are 11 drills that were not purchased and which, therefore, didn't have to be manufactured. Does that help in slowing down the pace in which we are exhausting our planets finite resources? Does it reduce the pollution? You bet it does!! Just imagine how much less packaging would be used in a year, the reduction in land fill, the reduction in shipping fuel… So now we are not only making ourselves and our neighbour happy, but we are contributing to the happiness of all the people sharing this planet with us and we are saving the Earth for our children!

Multiply this single, simple drill example by millions and you can see what a profound effect we can have on our environment if we just change our thinking and behaviour a little bit, while at the same time we are not losing anything. In fact we are gaining a lot. That is why we created AnyHire!

How am I protected?

AnyHire.com has been developed with your security and privacy foremost in mind. We are constantly developing safeguards to keep safe all parties of a transaction.

How we protect your privacy

  • We never give out or display your personal details to anybody who hasn't entered into an actual hire agreement with you, which happens with the act of payment.
  • Even after your items are booked and paid for, your place of residence may stay protected by setting up personal 'branches' from which you conduct your 'business' (for example your local coffee shop).
  • Your username is never shown to people who have not entred into a rental agreement with you while dynamically generated numbers help users keep track of items from the same owner. This makes it very difficult for any user to find out what items you might have in your home (that is unless you want them to), even if they knew your address, which they don't.
  • If you are an individual, your location on any maps is offset by few hundred meters so that users have a pretty good idea of how far from them you are, while at the same time making it virtually impossible to determine your exact location just by zooming in on your location shown by the map marker.
  • The exact map location of your 'personal office' (which may or may not be your home) is only revealed to users who need to pick up item(s) they hired from you.

How we protect your security

  • All transfers that include personal information between your computer and our servers are encrypted with a 4096 strong encryption key.
  • To protect the security of financial transactions, AnyHire.com does not process any payments ourselves. All payments go directly through one of the most trusted payment processing companies in the world - PayPal. You do not have to have an account with PayPal to be able to pay for items you want to hire. All you need is your credit card.

How are your items protected when they are hired?

  • You may utilize security deposits for any of your items.
  • An optional binding rental agreement, that both parties can sign, is available at no additional cost.
  • We allow hirers to upload their own or altered rental agreements and link them to any number of their items.
  • We've implemented extensive rating system for both customers as well as hirers to keep all users honest.
  • All user's email addresses must be confirmed before they can enter any hire agreements.
  • You are entitled to ask the customer for their mobile phone number and verify it by calling that number.

How are you protected as a customer?

  • Your payment is always held in escrow until the transaction is successfully concluded.
    • If the item you hired turns out to be not available, you will get a full refund.
    • If there is a problem with the item that is not your fault, you may receive partial or even full refund from us.
  • Other users rate the hirers and you can see before you enter a rental agreement with a hirer if they have proven to be fair and trustworthy. You can read all the past comments made about a particular hirer.

Can I list my items in more than one category?

Absolutely! You can list your items in THREE categories for FREE and unlimited categories for a small fee (visit Pricing page for details). If it makes sense, you are encouraged to list your item in more than one category where other users may be looking for it.

Even better, you'll be listed in all categories ABOVE the categories you picked.

So...If you pick Surfboards as a category, you'll automatically be listed in the Water Sports group AND Sports (general) group, too. And you still have two more categories to pick for FREE. Categorically AWESOME.

What if I do not find a fitting category?

Do you think that there's a category missing that would benefit you and others? One of the great things about AnyHire.com is that you can suggest a new category easily. Simply click the bottom tab of your item definition an the New / Edit product page and follow the directions provided. Your feedback and suggestions are always welcome.

Can I buy things on AnyHire.com?

Yes. Some items may be flagged for sale. However, since AnyHire is all about hiring / renting, all items must be available for hire.

You may use AnyHire as an affordable alternative to strictly buy & sell sites. Our transaction fees for sales are lower than most, there is never a listing fee, PLUS you can earn additional income by renting the item out while waiting for it to sell.

Pricing

Do you cater for all the different hire pricing styles out there?

Yes. We offer three basic pricing styles, two of which are very flexible to allow virutally any business to mirror their pricing style.

The following pricing styles can be selected individually for each listed item:

  • Basic pricing style is to be used mainly by private item owners. It is predefined as per hour, per day, per week, per month and per weekend so it requires no setup. You just fill in prices for one or more of the listed periods and you're done.
  • Custom pricing style is very flexible because the actual hire periods and the way how the final price is calculated from them has to be setup first. The setup is just a one-time affair though and once defined the scheme can be used for any number of your items. This pricing style will fit 99% of the existing businesses.
  • Advanced pricing style is available as the last resort. It is very flexible but also accordingly complicated to set up. You can define unlimited number of advanced pricing styles and then apply them appropriately to any number of your items.

If you are a business and not sure how to set up the pricing to mimic your specific pricing contact us and we'll help you.

How is price calculated for items priced using the Simple pricing style?

When the hire period includes a mix of rates (months, weeks and days) the final price is calculated as follows:

Rates are calculated using the most discounted rate achieved through the length of the rental. Let's say you hire out an item for 10 days using 'simple pricing'. If you only offer hire by the week, the customer would be charged for two whole weeks since the rental period extends beyond one week.

If, however, you offer rental by hour, by day and by week then the hire price will include rent for one week plus 3/7ths (3 of 7 days calculated at .4286%) the cost of rental for the second week.

Here's an example:
Item for hire
$10.00 / hour (1680 / week)
$50.00 / day (250 / week)
$100.00 / week (100 / week)
Since the customer meets the maximum discount by hiring for at least a week, they are entitled to an extension of that rate applied as a percentage for the remainder of the agreed upon hire period.
Therefore 10 days hire cost = $100 + ({0.4286 or 3/7ths} x $100) = 142.86

Businesses

We have multiple employees / branches. Can I set up multiple people to use our business account?

Yes, absolutely! First, every person needs to register their own personal account. You can then link them to your business record using the My Account > Authorizations page. You will only need to know their username or email they used to register with. Then you will be able to assign them to one of 5 available roles within the system which give them varying set of permissions to your business data on AnyHire.com. You will also be able to restrict that authority to only a selected branch or multiple branches if needed.

The number of authorized people per trader is not limited and a single person can even be authorized by more than one business or even by another private person.

How can you help me import my inventory?

You can export your data from your internal booking management system into a required format, send it to us to our 'Business product listing support' email address and pay a small 'Bulk import' fee.

We are also developing importer modules for the most common booking management systems on the market. Contact us to discuss your system.

For those who are using systems for which we do not yet have importer modules and who have systems which don't facilitate data exporting, we offer manual data entry services. To find out more please write to us or call +61 7 5326 1454.

We do not hire to just anybody. Does AnyHire.com provide any functionality for pruning away the mums & dads?

Yes. There are several ways to set up your account so that only the customers you want come through to you and you do not have to spend time rejecting those who you are not structured for to serve.

First of all you can take advantage of the "Available to" (target market) options on your account as well as for each listed product separately. This ensures that:

  • Individual item(s) in your inventory can be made available in search results only to those clients that fit your predefined criteria for that item.
  • We can provide specialized websites for most of the specialized markets which will be used by people from those fields.

Additionally, if you only hire to genuine professionals in your field, you can mark all your items by default or selectively as only available to professionals. This option will add a prominent note on top of your product detail pages to state that fact. It also states that you reserve the right to refuse customers which do not match your criteria. That should prevent any time wasting phone calls an only bring you potential customers that you desire.

If you only accept orders of certain size then you can use the account option to set a limit on the minimum value of any order that you accept. Our users will also see this as a prominent note on your product detail pages and will be able to decide if they can meet your criteria while your existing customers will still be able to submit orders if necessary.

How are the business directory search results sorted?

Please note that the sorting alghoritm described below applies to both the full business directory as well as the first three business results shown below item search results.

Also note that the all businesses appear in business directory searches while the business suggestions below item search results only ever contain businesses which are registered and have purchased the Show Logo service.

Registered businesses (those whose owners registered on AnyHire.com) are listed first. Within that group first businesses shown are the ones who have their "Show logo service" currently active. The next sort criteria is the AnyHire.com user rating of the particular branch listed. Next in importance is the number of items listed on AnyHire.com.

Businesses whose owners have not yet signed up and taken ownership of their business records on AnyHire can at least update their details, which results in receiving a ThumbUp badge for the next 365 days. This badge signifies that the information in your business record is fresh and pushes your record before those who did not update their details within the past year. This same criteria is also used for registered businesses when all other sorting criteria are equal. The last sorting criterion is based on when you first registered on AnyHire, so do it now to get one step ahead of your competition in our sorting algorithm.

We also record both positive and negative behavioural points on AnyHire and these are also calculated into our sorting algorithm. Try to not take actions that are against our ToS or other users because it may result in your lower rating on AnyHire.com.

Can anyone advertise on AnyHire.com?

Yes, but on a very limited scale in case of general advertisers.

To ensure a seamless experience, we allow only a limited number of ads to be displayed throughout the site. Those that customers do see are, in most cases, required to be closely related to what the customer is currently searching for on AnyHire.com.

There are only two spots for general advertisers. The few other spots are reserved for actual hire businesses, which in some cases must be registered with AnyHire.com.

Also, under normal circumstances and if you opt for that service, your business logo is automatically displayed at top of search results every time when at least one of your items is listed on the results page. Registered businesses can additionally opt for promotional banners and other offerings to promote their brand awareness and online presence.

The best way to promote your business on AnyHire.com is to register with us and list all your items (both actions are completely FREE).

Businesses can also set up Private Shops and create Private Websites on AnyHire.com. Among other benefits, private websites enable you to white-label your shop and otherwise customize it, including ads to rotate on your custom main page, above search results and on additional custom dedicated pages. Contact us for details.

One possible way to promote your business on AnyHire.com even if you do not offer any items for hire through AnyHire.com is to add your business into the Hire & Rental Business Directory that we maintain and select categories of products you offer. When you do that, you are not only discoverable by customers who browse the directory for your area, but your logo will be shown in search results every time a search for items in one of the categories of items you offer returns no results. We do not mind showing your logo and contact information to customers if that can help them to find what they are looking for. Also, a wide skyskraper ad area is available on the 'About' page that you will get for your business when you register it with us. (IMPORTANT: Please first search for your business in the business directory as it is very likely we have already added your business. In such cases just extend the found listing to a full registration and you're good to go.)

Alternatively, if you would like the same details to also appear at the bottom of all relevant searches that DO return results (which represents much larger number of pages), you can purchase that service on your account upgrades page (look for a service called "More business exposure") or on the Social & Linking tab in your Account Preferences where you can also set up and receive discounts on this service.

Additional advertising options open for you when you purchase the Private Website service. Not only you get skinable web pages that can perfectly follow your business branding, but you get additional three private ad spaces on all pages of your private website including the 'About' and the 'Private Shop' pages.

Why can't I put information about my company / business into item descriptions?

This is to ensure the satisfaction of users searching for items. They are at this point not interested in your business. If the text does not describe the actual item, it has no place in its description or anywhere else within the item definition. Company / business information may be placed on a special page that is linked from all your items if you so opt.

To learn more, see the Logo & links pricing. You can switch that service ON and OFF by checking or unchecking the 'Show business name with products' on the Business settings tab in your Account > Preferences.
